Are you a Sonic Gem Seeker? Ever dreamt of diving into the pulsating music scene of a new city, guided by a local music aficionado just like yourself? Picture yourself uncovering hidden music venues, mingling with local musicians, and immersing yourself in the soul of a city through its musical culture.

That's precisely what The Hidden Gems of Music Tourism is all about!

From May 29th to 31st, 2024, the Music Tourism Convention made its way to the picturesque Cape Breton Island in Canada. To commemorate this convergence of music tourism best practices, we're unearthing The Hidden Gems of Music Tourism across the globe.

A GUIDE THROUGH THE HIDDEN GEMS OF YOUR CITY

ABOUT THE PROJECT

During March and April 2024, we hosted an open call in which music enthusiasts from all around the globe were able to submit 1-day music itineraries that shared some insights into their local music scene. The itineraries submitted came from all corners of the world, from Mbabane in Eswatini to Anchorage in Alaska, from Vienna in Austria to Shilong in India, and more.

These itineraries exploded with creativity, expanding the scope of what an average music tourism itinerary could look like. Across these submissions, we found music tours for parents traveling with their toddlers, for people looking to discover the most tropical sounds of the Scandinavian countries, or music nerds exploring the best music libraries of the city.

The Hidden Gems of Music Tourism is coming together as a unique catalog of music itineraries that will guide people through local music scenes in the way a friend who is a music nerd would do if you were stopping by for a visit.

We're currently consolidating and editing the information received. The Hidden Gems of Music Tourism will be officially launched during October as an E-Book which will include several articles on music tourism, alongside an interactive page highlighting selected itineraries and offering virtual tours to selected destinations.
